B&B at The Garden House is different. With just one large guest room in a separate cottage, guests enjoy personal hospitality. Benlle and Noodle, a couple of ex “township” dogs, are usually part of the welcome. A cat or two may also show up. This is how Bed & Breakfast used to be! built in 1881 in Cape Victorian style in an elevated position on the edge of the village, The Garden House is an easy, ten minute walk from most of Franschhoek’s shops, galleries and famous restaurants. The renovated cottage with original oregon beams is under the shade of a most beautiful old camphor tree, The large en-suite bathroom has a separate shower; double basins, razor socket, heated towel rail and underfloor heating. The bedroom is equipped with TV, radio, hairdryer, a fridge with complimentary soft drinks, tea and coffee making facilities, a safe, a ceiling fan, air conditioning (warm and cool), cotton sheets and bath robes.
In summer, the stoep (or verandah), with its wonderful views across the valley, is where guests are served with a very special breakfast – freshly squeezed juices, home made muesli with fresh fruit and yoghurt, locally caught and smoked salmon trout, freshly baked croissants, toast, locally made marmalade, local and French cheeses and as much freshly made tea or coffee as you can handle. In the summer evenings, the stoep is also where Annette and Barry invite guests to join them for complimentary sundowners – a nicely chilled sauvignon Blanc or a refreshing gin and tonic or two.
Two mountain bikes are available for cruising around the village, visiting a couple of vineyards for a little light wine tasting or an off-road ride with Barry. For hikers and horse riders, there are wonderful walks and rides with magnificent views. And when you’ve done all that you can flop down by our pool, which is actually big enough to swim in! Bed and breakfast at The Garden House is definitely different!
