Franschhoek Wine Valley

Re-Imagining Wood art exhibition at Ebony Curated

Ebony 1

EBONY FRANSCHHOEK

Exhibition opens Saturday 11th February 2017 at 11am

Continues until 26th February 2017

EBONY is delighted to be exhibiting a new selection of Rodney Band’s unique and individual hand turned vessels. Using a variety of woods, Band expands on the utilitarian use of turning wood that is documented back to ancient Egypt. With vessels and objects turned on a lathe becoming familiar objects throughout history, a Guild recognising woodturners was formed in London in 1310. Today, a small group of master turners, including Band, are recognised worldwide for producing sculptural and aesthetically beautiful vessels, which in turn have become highly collectable.

Band has been producing bowls since the early 1990’s with works in many overseas and local collections. This will be the first exhibition of his work shown at EBONY in Franschhoek.
