Terbodore Coffee Roasters was designated the 2010 winner of the prestigious Illovo Sugar-sponsored Cafe Society cappuccino competition in the Pietermaritzburg and Midlands area.
While the most popular cappuccino is chosen as the measure, the competition also serves to identify the province’s top coffee shops. In this regard, last year’s winner, Coffeeberry Cafe, was placed joint second with Piggly Wiggly at Lion’s River.
Terbodore owner Marian Macaskill is delighted at the award, pointing out that the establishment competed against well-known brands in entrenched outlets throughout the KZN interior. “This is an indication that the correctly roasted coffee bean, coupled with passion for coffee, is vitally important as far as making the perfect “cuppa” is concerned,” Macaskill said. Counting in Terbodore’s favour is its roastery component, and a heavy emphasis on service. “As a family-run business, we listen to our clients’ needs and roast, grind, pack and distribute the bean in any grind and package size to suite the consumer, within a couple of days,” she said.
Terbadore also retails decaff and organic coffee as well as an extended range of flavoured coffees and recently completed the restaurant adjacent to the roastery to offer meals and tea-time treats daily.
