Tuk Tuk Microbrewery

Tu(c)k In

On the hop? Try our tasting menu of four Tuk Tuk or CBC brews. Or linger longer over a tasting of all eight. These two tasting options allow you to sample the tantalising range of aromas and flavours in our craft beers.

Want to spice things up? Try a T&T (tequila and a spicy tomatino shot) followed by a cooling half-pint of lager – an experience so authentic you’ll be doing the Mexican wave in no time!

Need to ‘Tu(c)k in’ to something more substantial? The Tuk Tuk ‘Taqueria’ serves Mexican-inspired ceviche, nachos and tacos, perfect partners to our craft brews.

Leeu Collection embarked on an exciting journey with the Cape Brewing Company (CBC) to bring you Tuk Tuk Microbrewery in the village of Franschhoek.

Leeu Collection (in Sanskrit Singh means lion, which is leeu in Afrikaans) currently comprises three five-star boutique properties in South Africa’s winelands: Leeu Estates, a 17-room country house and boutique winery in the Franschhoek valley; Leeu House, an exclusive 12-room hotel in the heart of Franschhoek village; and Le Quartier Français, a romantic 21-room hotel also located in the village. The latest addition to the portfolio is Linthwaite House, a 30-room country retreat overlooking Lake Windermere in England’s scenic Lake District.

A very nice little brewery on steroids – especially when it comes to technological advances and energy savings!

Dewald Goosen, brewmaster at Tuk Tuk

CBC was born when Swedish brewer Henrik Dunge joined two beer enthusiasts, Charles Back and Andy Kung, to establish a brewery that makes beer as it should be made — in true craft style. CBC first opened its doors on Spice Route in Paarl, which is owned by Charles, in 2012.

Kaspar Schulz in Bamberg, Germany was commissioned to build the bespoke microbrewery at Tuk Tuk. The company has over 300 years of experience in brew system fabrication and the 250-litre capacity copper microbrewery is sure to become a new landmark on Huguenot Street.

Dewald Goosen, Tuk Tuk’s brewmaster, started as an enthusiastic and successful home brewer and soon became the head brewer of Woodstock Brewery in Cape Town. Dewald gained experience with both micro as well as up to 3 000-litre brewing plants and, before taking on the reins at Tuk Tuk, was a senior brewer at CBC. This adventurous and passionate brewer is in his element at Tuk Tuk, as the microbrewery will be creating new benchmarks by experimenting with different ingredients and custom batches.

Dewald has trained under CBC’s brewmaster, Wolfgang Koedel, who has over 30 years of experience and takes immense pride in the craft he loves. Wolfgang firmly believes that he was “destined to brew beer” and he has travelled the world doing so, establishing seven operations in three continents along the way.

We are eager to welcome you to our little gem of a brewery and invite you to be part of a truly immersive experience. The interior design for Tuk Tuk exudes an industrial feel with its vaulted ceiling, exposed brick and sandblasted walls, and copper and stainless steel service pipes running overhead. Patrons can be seated indoors around the microbrewery and watch fine craft beer being expertly brewed, or outdoors on the bustling main street of the village.
