  • Boschendal launches new picnics

TWO DIFFERENT PICNIC EXPERIENCES NOW AVAILABLE AT BOSCHENDAL

With dramatic mountain views framing the lush lawns of Boschendal estate, it’s no surprise the picnics have become one of the most popular outdoor options in the Cape Winelands over the decades. With a fresh breeze of innovation blowing through the farm, it was time to freshen up the picnics too and Boschendal now offers two distinctly different options.

The classic Boschendal picnic has relocated to the Rhone Homestead lawns, which forms the wine-making and wine-tasting hub of the estate. The picnic area is surrounded by the exhibition vineyards, the Rhone Homestead, the Cellar Door and Winery. Picnic baskets can be enjoyed at carefully-laid out tables or on a picnic blanket under the shady oak trees which surround the lawn. The picnics are fully serviced. The cost is R440 for two adults who share and R85 for kids under 12. (This includes a 10% service fee, but excludes beverages). Open daily.

The Werf Garden Picnics are a more casual affair under the trees on the Pavilion lawn. This area is adjacent to the main werf area and the farm-to-table food hub. Werf picnic baskets include simple, nutritious food made from natural farm produce and wholesome items made by Boschendal’s bakers, butchers, and chefs.  Chill out in hammocks, flop in a bean bag or grab a blanket to find the perfect spot. Guests are welcome to bring a folding chair. Child-friendly with a jungle gym and acres of garden to play in. This is a partially serviced area.  The cost is R360 for a basket for two, R195 for a  basket for one and R85 for young children. This excludes beverages.  Open Wednesday to Sunday.

The chefs use produce grown naturally on Boschendal or sourced from local artisan producers to put together generous picnic baskets packed with delicious and wholesome farm food. The seasonal picnic menus change depending on what the food garden is producing.

  • Food and Wine Tasting experience at La Motte

Recently awarded as the winner in the Drinks International Wine Tourism Awards for the category Best Food and Wine Matching Experience for the third time, the exceptional food and wine experience presented from   La Motte Wine Estate in the Franschhoek Valley needs little introduction. One of the central elements in this comprehensive offering, is the Friday morning Food and Wine Tasting and hot on the heels of its latest international recognition, La Motte is introducing an exciting new execution to this popular tasting.

Not only has Chef Michelle Theron and Cellarmaster Edmund Terblanche reinvented and reinterpreted the pairing to present a brand new array of beautiful little tasters complementing the La Motte Classic Collection of wines, but the Tasting will now also be presented from Pierneef à La Motte Restaurant. Guests and culinary tourists now have the opportunity to enjoy being seated at the exclusive Chef’s Table (seating a group of eight) or on the expansive stoep, framed by the beautiful gardens and oak trees (for bigger groups). Chef Michelle’s delicately plated tasters beautifully complement the elegant environment, but still represent flavours and tastes we experience every day and will guide guests towards more reliable future food and wine selections, with reference to weight and intensity, as well as the influence of the primary taste sensations. Regarded for her on-trend interpretation of traditional Cape Winelands Cuisine, Michelle works closely with Cellarmaster Edmund Terblanche in creating cuisine to beautifully complement the estate’s wines – whether they are enjoyed in this specialised tasting, as part of a meal in Pierneef à La Motte Restaurant or as part of one of the other experiences offered on the estate. Presented by well-informed and enthusiastic Wine Ambassadors, the La Motte Food and Wine Tasting aims to be both educational and enjoyable.

La Motte Food and Wine Tastings take place on Fridays at 10:00. Prior reservation is essential and can be made by calling the La Motte Tasting Room at +27 (0)21 876 8820 or e-mailing tasting@la-motte.co.za
