Franschhoek Wine Valley

A Rosé By Any Other Name

Traditionally Rosés are enjoyed during the warmer months, but the versatility of this varietal has resulted in it being enjoyed throughout the year. Also, geared initially at women there is a growing trend amongst men to be seen to enjoy a good Rosé every now and then.

Annually International Rosé Day is celebrated on the 4th Friday in June, which this year happens to fall on 26 June. Although the Cape is preparing for another extreme cold front this weekend, which would automatically call for a robust red, why not break with tradition and savour a glass of Rosé instead.

In case you have run out here are some suggestions on what would look good in your collection from some of our Vignerons:

This is indeed one for your cellar. Holden Manz’s Hiro Rosé 2019 was awarded 92 points in the Global Rosé Masters Tasting, which was hosted by one of the UK’s leading industry publications,  Drinks Business. It lives up to its impressive reputation with its smooth full mouth feel and wet stone minerality with flavours of sea salt, fresh cling peaches and Japanese raspberries. A creamy elegant wine with heaps of finesse and a long finish. A complex wine designed to delight and make any occasion perfect.

Multi-tasking for wine – a bubbly and Rosé in Winter. Why not? Look no further than the Allée Bleue Brut Rosé 2015, which is a fresh and lively MCC filled with flavours of strawberries, rose petals and candyfloss. The palate is clean and refreshing with great balance and zesty minerality. A great bubbly for any occasion.

Next to consider is Babylonstoren’s Mourvèdre Rosé 2019, which is best described as strawberry yoghurt on the palate with candyfloss finish and fresh acidity for a delicious, lingering mouth-feel. Yum!

We absolutely love the label of the Black Elephant Vintners’ Rosé Rebel 2019, and we’ve no doubt nor will you. Breaking from tradition it features a camo type label, and we’re convinced the contents pack a powerful punch when it comes to hitting the right flavour notes. According to the team, the pink camo label is a combination of both feminine and masculine values.

100% Pinot Noir and absolute fruitiness is the Belle Rosé MCC from Pierre Jourdan, which forms part of the Haute Cabrière portfolio. The palate reveals a lively presentation of rich strawberry and cherry flavours derived from Pinot Noir – with an elegant dry finish.

Now that we have tickled your taste buds we invite you to visit our website for the full list of our wine farms who produce stellar Rosés for you to sample.

Cheers to International Rosé Day on Friday.
