Franschhoek Wine Valley

Le Ballon Rouge

Le Ballon Rouge opens after refurbishment.

Franschhoek has plenty of accommodation to suit every taste. Le Ballon Rouge, the oldest guesthouse in the Hoek, is a newly added member of The Fine Collection and situated in the centre of Franschhoek with all the main attractions only walking distance away—from art galleries to museums to restaurants to world-class wine estates.

A 10-room boutique guest house, Le Ballon Rouge reopened on 1 November 2021 after a refurbishment. It offers an upscale setting that takes guests into history with contemporary comforts. Stay at Le Ballon Rouge and experience true luxury, convenience and comfort.

The 10 beautifully appointed rooms at La Ballon Rouge offer you a luxurious and peaceful environment in which to rest after a day exploring Franschhoek’s impressive attractions. The rooms have comfortably been refurbished with fine quality furnishings and linen. There are 8 Luxury Rooms, 1 Loft Suite and then the Owners Suite, which is fit for a king

A continental breakfast is included every morning, consisting of fresh local produce. The restaurant is not open for lunch and dinner. Given tourisms challenges in the last 18 months, Le Ballon Rouge prefers to give the opportunity to other Franschhoek restaurants and entrepreneurs to welcome their guests for lunch or dinner.

Franschhoek is packed with standout restaurants offering stellar views and succulent, locally sourced cuisine. From five-star fine dining to cozy neighborhood joints, you’ll find it all here—with a wine pairing for every taste. Speaking of wine… #swoon #savor #cheers! Spend your day at one of Franschhoek’s many vineyards or take the wine tram and see what the vignerons has to offer.

‘Le Ballon Rouge is the perfect fit for’, says Eben Lassen, director of the company and who has a personal history in Franschhoek. Herbert Henrich, the owner of this fine establishment is excited for Le Ballon Rouge’s future. The newly appointed Manager – Nazly Basson is no stranger to the Hoek and has already settled into this icon in Franschhoek. Let us know if there are any special requests you might have when making your reservation. We love hearing from our guests!
