Eat Out Awards rates Franschhoek’s establishments amongst SA’s finest
Congratulations to Executive Chef Margot Janse and her team from The Tasting Room at Le Quartier Français who have yet again been recognised as one of SA’s finest restaurants. The restaurant secured the number three slot for one of the top restaurants at the 2015 Mercedes Benz Eat Out Awards.
The awards took place on Sunday, 15 November and was attended by the who’s who in the culinary industry.
Adding to the excitement The Tasting Room was also awarded the coveted Service Excellence Award. This latest accolade sets The Tasting Room apart from the rest as the most awarded restaurant in the history of the Eat Out competition.
Margot finds inspiration in South Africa, interpreting local scenes in dishes like a Day at the Beach, a fish dish with seaweed, refreshing Eugenia (foraged on the property’s garden), buchu and Natal wild plums.
Continuing with Franschhoek’s winning streak for the evening Head Chef Carmen Muller who creates delicious masterpieces at The Tasting Centre at Rupert & Rothschild, was named the Nederburg Rising Star. Carmen was acknowledged for her ability to create astounding dishes with a small staff of two and a rather small kitchen. She is known for creating a variety of inventive, delicious and ever-changing dishes designed to pair with and show off the excellent wines attached to the estate.
Carmen believes in using only the finest ingredients to tantalize the taste buds. Everything is made from scratch in the country kitchen, starting with wholesome wholegrain breads baked from stone-ground flour served with salted truffle butter and duck pâté.
