Going nuts with Babylonstoren’s nuts

From their striking flowers in early spring to our harvest in autumn, we’re nuts about nuts here on Babylonstoren! Nonpareil, meaning ‘without equal’ in French, is the main almond cultivar grown on the farm.

Our first stop will be our nut orchards with farmer, Ian de Villiers, to get a behind-the-scenes look at growing and harvesting almonds, macadamias and pecans.

After an almond milk tasting, we’ll find our way to the Lekker Room for a nibble of freshly roasted almonds and macadamias. Our production manager, Tiaan Claassen, will host a short presentation on the differences between the nut cultivars and the effect that these differences have on the roasting and processing of nut-derivative products. Each guest will have the opportunity to make their own fresh nut butter.

To nut things off, we’ll visit the Tasting Room for a collaboration lunch with nut-derived products and our food scientist, Debora van der Merwe, will share some health benefits of eating nuts and creative ways to use nuts.
