Indigenous peoples from southern Africa survived in the veld for thousands of years. They were skilled in recognising and using the various parts of plants for food – bulbs, shoots, flowers and fruit – throughout the seasons.

Spend the day with well known botanist Ernst van Jaarsveld, who will share his wealth of experience of South Africa’s indigenous plants. We start the day with a walk through the garden, picking and tasting food plants in season. In the garden lecture room Ernst will give an illustrated talk on indigenous edible plants, how to recognise edible veld plants as well as how to propagate and plant them.

In the afternoon we get practical – it will be your turn to get your hands in the soil and plant your own edible plants to take home.

Lunch will be enjoyed at the Greenhouse Restaurant and is included in the price. For our hotel guests, the events for the day are included in your stay – book at
