La Motte Wine and Food Tasting Experience

It is all about perfect balance! The weight of the dish is the most important consideration, and this depends as much on the way the ingredients are cooked as on the flavours of the ingredients themselves. The key is to balance the weight of the food with the weight of the wine, so that neither overwhelms the other. 

And perfect balance is exactly what is achieved at this incredible food and wine experience at La Motte. It is clear that Chef Michelle Theron and Cellarmaster Edmund Terblanche meticulously planned every tiny detail of this pairing to create incredible taste sensations.

La Motte also took this pairing to the next level by incorporating art into this experience. Every dish is served on bespoke ceramic ware specifically created by talented local ceramicists to complement the food. The result is incredible, each making the specific dish more alive. The work of ceramicists such as Hennie Meyer, David Walters, Christo Giles, Amelia Jacobs, John Bauer , Sarah Walters, Laura du Toit, Diane Harper and Sue van Rensburg can be seen here.

The grilled karoo lamb with eucalyptus mayonnaise paired with the La Motte Cabernet Sauvignon was a definite favourite around the table today.

One of my favourite pairings for the day was the spiced pumpkin tart with cashew crumble, roast pumpkin and pinapple sambal paired with the La Motte Chardonnay.

The food and wine tasting experience takes place at the elegant Pierneef à La Motte restaurant at La Motte Wine Estate every Friday at 10am. Prior reservation (at least two days in advance) is required. The experience is available for a group of two to 15 people and it is a great way to celebrate a birthday or special occasion. The cost is R200 per person.
