Let’s Get Franschhoek Vaccinated

Although the vaccination drive nationwide is in full throttle, the Franschhoek Wine Valley is takings things up a gear to become the first town in South Africa to be 100% vaccinated ahead of the Summer season. This in an effort to boost the faster return of international visitors to the region, and more importantly stimulate Franschhoek’s employment growth. An initiative which has the full support of the Western Cape Government and Wesgro.
Currently Franschhoek has only been granted two vaccination dates per month, as allocated by the Department of Health, which won’t touch sides to reach the intended deadline. To reach herd immunity a minimum of 960 people need to be vaccinated per day, which unfortunately comes at a hefty price tag, and has to be funded solely by Franschhoek Tourism. The daily projected cost of R37 600 would be needed to fund marshals, coordinators and cleaners, amongst others, as well as their meals and transport to and from the relevant vaccination sites. The team involved would like to have this completed within 16 days from date of implementation, at a total cost of R660 000.
How can you get involved?
The Franschhoek Wine Valley has a special place in all of our hearts, for whatever reason, and together we can help them make this dream a reality. Not only for the benefit of international visitors, but for local tourists as well. The sooner we reach herd immunity, the sooner we can explore destinations far and wide. No longer will it merely be a figment of our imagination, but it can become our reality.
For this purpose, Franschhoek Tourism has set up a GoFundMe account, whereby interested members of the public and / or corporations can donate to this worthy cause.
