Art enthusiasts will be treated to a breathtaking display of large-scale, outdoor sculptures by acclaimed artists at the 8th annual American Express Winter Sculpture Fair. The event serves as the launch of the 2020 Nirox exhibition, That Hidden Thread. Taking place, as it does, over the Mother’s Day weekend, from 9 to 10 May, it is the perfect outing for family and friends.
The 2020 sculpture exhibition is focused on the African continent, its potential and its artistic wealth. Curated by acclaimed Spanish curator, Marta Moriarty, the show sees the work of 16 established Moroccan and South African artists exhibited in dialogue with local creators and performers.
Complementing the cultural experience, restaurants and wine producers from the renowned Franschhoek Wine Valley will be showcasing their finest culinary and wine offerings. This year the Franschhoek restaurants will be joined by a selection of Gauteng’s eateries at the fair.
Visitors will be able to sample delicious foods and world-class wines as they admire the exquisite works of art and browse the beautiful landscaped gardens of the Nirox Foundation Sculpture Park. This year, festivalgoers will be treated to wines from Rupert & Rothschild, La Motte, Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines, La Bri, La Couronne, Lynx, Chamonix and Boschendal, to name but a few. Wines can be paired with food offerings from Holden Manz and the Franschhoek Kitchen, Black Elephant Vintners and Bovine, Old Road Wine Co, Môreson and Miss Molly, La Petite Ferme or GlenWood Vineyards.
The fair is open from 10am to 5pm daily, with tickets costing R250 per adult and children under 12 pay R40. This year, for the first time, limited reserved seating is available. For all bookings visit www.webtickets.co.za.
The Nirox Foundation Sculpture Park is situated on 15 hectares of landscaped gardens and waterways within an extensive private nature reserve in the heart of the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site.
