Representing our wine, accommodation and restaurant sectors we couldn’t be prouder of our members who have done so well throughout the year. The most recent wine accolade includes the launch of the 2020 Platter’s by Diners Club South African Wine Guide, which saw Franschhoek Vignerons taking top honours in most of the categories as well as earning the coveted 5-star rating for no less than 14 wines. Topping the list was Mullineux Wines who were named Top Performing Winery of the Year, winning this title for the fourth time.
And hot off the press is the announcement of 2019 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards, with three Franschhoek eateries securing a spot on this sought-after list of the country’s Top 20. The deserving recipients were La Petite Colombe (#6), Chefs Warehouse at Maison (#14) and Le Coin Français (#16). When next visiting the region be sure to set aside some time to enjoy a meal at one of these fine restaurants.

Let Grande Provence do the cooking this Christmas and treat family and friends to an exceptional fine dining experience. Starting on Christmas Eve, their festive six-course lunch and dinner menu will be offered at The Restaurant until 25 December. With an exciting array of dishes, this festive menu will satisfy every culinary desire. From endive, cranberry granite, crispy turkey skins and blue cheese to polenta sweetcorn pudding, scallops, bacon jam and crispy Brussel sprouts. For the ultimate festive finish, let pecan pie, curry and ginger gel, butternut ice cream with pumpkin pie powder hit the sweet spot. What better way to spend the first day of 2020 than in traditional South African style with the first braai of the year and live music in the beautiful surrounds of Franschhoek. For one day only Mont Rochelle’s Country Kitchen will have live music throughout the day from local band Ozone and will be turning up the heat with a quintessential South African braai feast. Ozone is a well-known South African band made up of Morné Smit and Maresa May who have been performing a variety of pop, reggae, soul and rock songs for over 16 years. The band has a blues and soul feel and brings a touch of originality to the cover songs they perform making for a great accompaniment to Country Kitchen’s relaxed dining experience. Guests are really in for a treat with dishes such as whole karoo lamb on the spit, traditional South African boerewors, seared yellowfin tuna loin and much more. The Country Kitchen at Mont Rochelle
Celebrate the New Year with a sunset market at the stunning Olive Press venue at Boschendal. You can expect Boschendal’s best night market food, finest wines and a festive atmosphere with live entertainment from Hot Water and a local DJ. Chicnics on the go
The basket will entice with a mélange of Cape flavours, with a touch of Christmas tradition. Think Christmas gammon, mince pies, Christmas cake, in addition to all the fresh produce that are sourced from the farm and immediate surrounds. A Chicnic basket for two, served at a garden table under an ancient oak tree or a Chicnic-On-The-Go hamper, to be enjoyed on the lawns of the beautifully manicured gardens, is the perfect setting for a lazy day in the Cape Winelands. While parents enjoy a leisurely visit, kids can play on the estate’s jungle gym, jumping castle and in the large sandpit. Allée Bleue’s youngest guests have picnic menu crafted specially for them.

Christmas lunch – vegetarian starter
On the cards too is a New Year’s Eve celebration to be hosted in the estate’s flagship, 250-seater ballroom, Le Grand Hall. This casual and fun event will offer food stalls with various eats ranging from local delicacies to sweet treats.
Offering sophisticated country hospitality, Le Grand Hall has a wonderful indoor-outdoor flow for entertaining guests against the majestic backdrop of the Drakenstein mountain range. The verdant lawns and fragrant gardens is ideal for al fresco drinks.
