  1. Franschhoek Culinary Status Still Top Of The Charts

    Sunday, 17 November signified an important day in the culinary calendar as the top South African restaurants were announced at the 2019 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards. Attended by the who’s who in the foodie and media fraternities, three Franschhoek eateries secured a spot on this sought-after list of the country’s Top 20. The winning restaurants were chosen by a core panel of anonymous judges.

    Already recognised both locally and internationally for their five-star culinary offerings, the Franschhoek restaurants included in the line-up of the country’s Top 20 were the following, in order of rank:

    La Petite Colombe (#6)

    The gala ceremony took place at GrandWest in Cape Town and this year’s theme was an elegant garden party, with the food and décor to match, which coincides perfectly with the impending Summer season.

  2. Franschhoek reaffirms its position as one of SA’s premier culinary destinations

    After months of waiting the big day finally arrived as the winners of the 2018 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards were announced. Of the 30 nominees a list of South Africa’s Top 20 were selected, which saw four Franschhoek eateries securing a spot on this sought after list. The winning restaurants were chosen by a core panel of anonymous judges and convened by Margot Janse.

    Already recognised both locally and internationally for their five-star culinary offerings, the Franschhoek chefs and restaurants to be announced as the Top 20 winners were the following, in order of rank:

    Scot Kriton and John Norris-Rogers, La Petite Colombe (#5)
    Chris Erasmus, Foliage (#13)
    Darren Badenhorst, Le Coin Français (#14)
    Liam Tomlin and David Schneider, Chefs Warehouse at Maison (#16)

    The Werf Restaurant at Boschendal, with Executive Chef Christiaan Campbell at the helm, was this year’s recipient of the Eat Out Woolworths Sustainability Award. According to the judges the restaurant was truly deserving of this award as Chef Christiaan is a prime example of a chef and farm working with nature to regenerate and restore.

    In addition Chris Erasmus of Foliage was one of two recipients to be awarded this year’s Eat Out Graham Beck Chefs’ Chef, which is voted for by the chefs of the 30 nominated restaurants. This year for the first time there was a tie, and Chris shared the award with Ivor Jones of Chefs Warehouse at Beau Constantia.

    The awards were announced at a gala ceremony which took place at GrandWest in Cape Town on Sunday, 18 November, and attended by the who’s who of the restaurant and media fraternities.

    In Franschhoek we are not only passionate about wine, but we’re also fanatical about food. Over the years the valley has become avidly known as the Culinary Capital of South Africa and the area is home to some of the best fine dining establishments in the country. We are proud once again to have five nominated restaurants from the Franschhoek Valley listed amongst the 30 nominees in the highly anticipated annual Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards.

    We’re extremely proud of these restaurants, and look forward to the big announcement of the Top 20 restaurants, which will be revealed at the gala awards ceremony on 18 November at GrandWest. From this list this Top 10 list will also be announced.

  4. Neil Jewell from Bread & Wine scoops best producer in The Paddocks category of The Eat Out Produce Awards 2013

    The Charcuterie King, Neil Jewell is crowned the best producer in The Paddocks category of The Eat Out DSTV Food Network Produce Awards. The winners were announced during a night market at The Biscuit Mill in Woodstock <http://www.eatout.co.za/Stores-Markets/532/Cape-Town/Markets/Neighbourgoods-Market-Cape-Town> , Cape Town on 15 March 2013. Stands at the night market were run by this year’s finalists and winners, showcasing the best of South Africa’s fresh produce.

    The official awards statement: “The Eat Out DSTV Food Network Produce Awards celebrate outstanding, independent South African producers for their integrity, passion and innovation. Winners are those who deliver a consistently high quality product that is SA grown or developed using primary produce from SA. Due care and consideration for both the environment and workforce are essential criteria. In addition to small producers, we also recognize stores and markets for their vital role in the process.”

    Neil’s passion and commitment to using only the best ingredients coupled with insatiable creativity makes him a very worthy candidate of this award.
