  1. Franschhoek Wine Valley Impresses Industry Critics

Internationally renowned wine critics, Jamie Goode and Treve Ring recently visited the Franschhoek Wine Valley where they were given the opportunity to sample some of the area’s finest wines. Regarded as one of South Africa’s formidable wine producing regions, Jamie and Treve also had the pleasure of meeting with the Vignerons who were able to give them deeper insight into some of the varietals the valley has become known for. During their visit, which took place over a few days, they tasted a wide range of wines from the valley. Wines included Semillon, Chardonnay, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and other niche varietals.

Jamie and Treve, who together write for the industry’s leading website, Wine anorak, thought they knew all that they needed to know about Franschhoek, but left with a sense of renewed knowledge about the valley and its producers.

The visit resulted in an in-depth article of their experience where they share their top wines from the region. To see which wines they ranked as their favourites click on the link below:

Holden Manz Estate’s Cabernet Franc 2017 and My Wyn’s Les Grandes Horizontales 2015 have each  secured a spot as one of the Top 6 Wines at this year’s Cabernet Franc Challenge. Now in its 4th year the competition highlights quality wines produced by some of South Africa’s most passionate winemakers. Regular star performer, Holden Manz, was the venue for the awards ceremony which took place on 16 April.

Winners and judges in the 2019 Cab FRanc Challenge

Holden Manz’s Cabernet Franc 2017 is a rich and elegant soft textured wine with predominant cassis and dark berries. Well balanced savoury flavours with good volume. The wood is well integrated, with pleasantly subtle tannins, resulting in a balanced wine with a long finish with an abundance of spice and mocha. My Wyn winemaker Jacolien Haasbroek describes the Les Grandes Horizontales 2015 as a blend four different varieties, which was matured in French oak for 26 months. This wine is the ultimate in feminine complexity. Velvety on the palate, with the promise and intrigue of a lingering experience. 4. Franschhoek Wine Ambassadors’ tune into local music and wine at Solms-Delta

Every month cellar door staff from Franschhoek wineries get together for the Vignerons de Franschhoek Wine Ambassadors Programme. The tasting is held at at a different wine farm every month and in this way staff get to experience the offerings of other wineries in their own area. In doing this it becomes easier for cellar door staff to refer guests to other properties and enhance their visit in the valley.

The first tasting of 2012 was held at the Solms-Delta Wine Estate in Franschhoek. The following video was put together as a summary highlight of what the evening was all about.
