  1. Art, Food and Wine at this year’s American Express Winter Sculpture Fair | 9 & 10 May 2020

    Art enthusiasts will be treated to a breathtaking display of large-scale, outdoor sculptures by acclaimed artists at the 8th annual American Express Winter Sculpture Fair. The event serves as the launch of the 2020 Nirox exhibition, That Hidden Thread. Taking place, as it does, over the Mother’s Day weekend, from 9 to 10 May, it is the perfect outing for family and friends.

    The 2020 sculpture exhibition is focused on the African continent, its potential and its artistic wealth. Curated by acclaimed Spanish curator, Marta Moriarty, the show sees the work of 16 established Moroccan and South African artists exhibited in dialogue with local creators and performers.

     Complementing the cultural experience, restaurants and wine producers from the renowned Franschhoek Wine Valley will be showcasing their finest culinary and wine offerings. This year the Franschhoek restaurants will be joined by a selection of Gauteng’s eateries at the fair.

    Visitors will be able to sample delicious foods and world-class wines as they admire the exquisite works of art and browse the beautiful landscaped gardens of the Nirox Foundation Sculpture Park. This year, festivalgoers will be treated to wines from Rupert & Rothschild, La Motte, Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines, La Bri, La Couronne, Lynx, Chamonix and Boschendal, to name but a few. Wines can be paired with food offerings from Holden Manz and the Franschhoek Kitchen, Black Elephant Vintners and Bovine, Old Road Wine Co, Môreson and Miss Molly, La Petite Ferme or GlenWood Vineyards.

    The fair is open from 10am to 5pm daily, with tickets costing R250 per adult and children under 12 pay R40. This year, for the first time, limited reserved seating is available. For all bookings visit www.webtickets.co.za.

  2. Franschhoek returns to the Winter Sculpture Fair – 11 & 12 May 2019

    The popular Winter Sculpture Fair, a unique sculpture exhibition in one of Gauteng’s most beautiful landscapes, returns to the Nirox Foundation Sculpture Park over the weekend of 11 and 12 May. Organisers of the event, Artlogic, have once again teamed up with the Franschhoek Wine Valley to bring to the fair the finest culinary and wine offerings from this world-renowned region.

    Restaurants and wineries from the region will set up shop alongside artisanal cheese and chocolate stands, amongst the exquisite sculptures. Sample delicious food from some of Franschhoek’s restaurants, whilst creating the perfect culinary pairing from the region’s Vignerons to complete your sensory experience. Visitors to the fair can expect to find some ‘old favourites’, such as Fromages des France, the Werf Restaurant, Boschendal, the Kitchen at Holden Manz, Franschhoek Cellar, Holden Manz Wine Estate, La Motte and Black Elephant Vintners.  A few new exciting offerings, such as Rupert & Rothschild, are guaranteed to add extra flair to the day’s festivities.

    The 2019 Winter Sculpture Fair is open from 10am to 5pm daily on both days. Tickets cost R240 per adult (R220 per person for the Early Bird special) and children under 12 pay R40 to enter.     To give you a bit of a head start when planning your 2019 travels we would like to remind you to save the date of some our social calendar highlights taking place this year. We kickstart our festival year with Franschhoek Summer Wines, which takes place on Saturday, 2 February at the breathtaking Leopard’s Leap Family Vineyards. Join us as we taste the Vigneron’s choices for Summer, as well as discover a few new gems.

    Book enthusiasts can look forward to the Franschhoek Literary Festival (17 – 19 May), while in July we celebrate all things French with the Franschhoek Bastille Festival (13 & 14 July).

    The popular Winter Sculpture Fair, a sculpture exhibition in one of Gauteng’s most beautiful landscapes, returns to the Nirox Foundation Sculpture Park over the weekend of 12 and 13 May. Organisers of the event, Artlogic, have once again teamed up with the Franschhoek Wine Valley to bring to the fair the finest culinary and wine offerings from this world-renowned region.

    Top restaurants and wineries will set up shop alongside artisanal cheese, charcuterie and chocolate stands. Visitors will be able to purchase goods from a range of exhibitors to tailor-make their own picnic experience amongst the exquisite sculptures. Sample delicious food from these fine Franschhoek restaurants: Bread & Wine, Happy Valley Charcuterie, Franschhoek Kitchen at Holden Manz, The Franschhoek Cellar, Grande Provence, Fromage de France, Huguenot Chocolates, Bovine Restaurant and Terbodore Coffee. Creating the perfect culinary pairing wines from these producers will complete your sensory experience: Babylonstoren, Colmant, Black Elephant Vintners, La Bri, Boschendal, Môreson, Grande Provence, The Franschhoek Cellar, Holden Manz, Haut Espoir, Lynx Wines, Rickety Bridge, La Couronne, La Motte, La Bourgogne, Normandie, Stony Brook and Haute Cabrière.     The 2018 exhibition is set to be a one of a kind experience in partnership with an international sculpture park, Wanås Konst.  Nirox has partnered with Curators, Elisabeth Millqvist & Mattias Givell from Wanås Konst, Sweden to present the 6th annual Winter Sculpture Fair. Visitors can wander the park and discover the artworks, and picnic amongst the sculpture with family and friends.

  5. The 2014 Winter Sculpture Fair in pictures

    This past weekend the second annual Winter Sculpture Fair, presented by MasterCard, with Franschhoek’s chefs and winemakers, was held at the NIROX Sculpture Park at the Cradle of Humankind. The event celebrated contemporary art and sculpture and the best food and wine from the Franschhoek Wine Valley.
