Terra del Capo Tasting Room officially open!

ANTHONIJ RUPERT WINES OPENS A SPACIOUS TASTING CENTRE, CELEBRATING LA DOLCE VITA WITH A CHOICE OF WINE FLIGHTS AND AUTHENTIC ANTIPASTI
This summer sees the opening of a brand-new tasting room in the Franschhoek valley by Anthonij Rupert Wines to showcase the company’s Italian-inspired Terra del Capo range. This delightful, refined range of food-friendly wines was originally developed by Anthonij Rupert, who not only believed that South African soils were well suited to growing Italian grape varietals but also had an abiding affection for Italy and the natural synergy between good food and wine.
Drawing on Franschhoek reputation for breath-taking scenery, award-winning wines and local produce-driven cuisine, the Terra del Capo tasting venue is informed by all the good things in life – what the Italians refer to as la dolce vita, or ‘the sweet life’ – and is set to transform wine tasting and food pairings into a relaxed, indulgent experience in elegant surroundings.
The opening of the Terra del Capo tasting room follows the acquisition earlier this year of the farm bordering L’Ormarins – the original home of Anthonij Rupert Wines. The farm, formerly owned by Graham Beck Wines, is an ideal location for the new tasting facility as it is easily accessible off the R45 route that leads into Franschhoek and is well suited to individuals and larger groups. It forms part of an existing complex that includes impressive red and white wine cellars and an extensive bottling plant.
The new tasting room, glamorously refashioned by Francois du Plessis Interiors in the designer’s trademark palette of muted tones with sophisticated fabrics and sleek finishes, invites complete relaxation and pure pleasure. Guests have a bird’s eye view of the activity in the cellar through a glass wall, as well as panoramic views of the vineyards and mountains. A spacious counter for formal tastings is the focal point of the mezzanine-level tasting room, while intimate lounge areas to either side of this are ideal for wine tasting in a more leisurely, conversational style.
Wine tasting is presented in flights of three or four wines, which are grouped together with a common thread so that guests can make an informed comparison and get to know the character of the wines. Besides the Terra del Capo range, which includes Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese and a Merlot/Sangiovese co-ferment, guests may also taste from other ranges produced by Anthonij Rupert Wines. In this way, each tasting is a personalised, bespoke experience that may include a single flight or several, depending on interest, enjoyment and available time. There is also a beautifully appointed private tasting room for 16 guests, which is ideally suited for corporate groups or specialised wine tours.
The tasting room will also feature a stylishly curated gourmet emporium stocked with wines, estate-produced extra-virgin olive oil, glassware as well as other accessories to inspire alfresco dining at home.
Trading hours for the Terra del Capo tasting room and antipasto bar will be from Monday to Sunday from 10h00 to 17h00. For further information, please call 021 874-9004 or email tasting@rupertwines.com
