Franschhoek Wine Valley

There’s Always Sunshine After The Rain

Although there is still a chill in the air this past weekend we were spoilt with magnificent weather which looks set to last throughout this week. This spectacular Winter weather comes hot off the heels of two icy cold fronts we experienced, which saw our mountain ranges covered with snow. The snow-capped mountains were certainly a sight to behold, but we welcome the warmer weather, which is ideal for venturing outdoors.

Make the most of this gorgeous weather and head out to our valley this weekend, popping in for a bite to eat at one of our restaurants or grabbing a home baked pastry or freshly brewed cup of coffee from one of the many delis dotted throughout the area. With a leisurely walk along Main Road you’re bound to uncover many more gems, which include art galleries as well as décor and clothing boutiques. Perfect for browsing or purchasing a gift for yourself or that someone special. Some of these must visit gems include EBONY/CURATED, Masquerade, Big Dog Café and Orangerie Restaurant, to name but a few.

The Franschhoek Valley is also perfectly suited to outdoor enthusiasts, ranging from various levels of experience. Outdoor hikes including scenic walks at Topiary Wines and the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve. For mountain biking trails, the Berg River Dam and Boschendal are the places you want to be. For a leisurely stroll through a magnificent fruit and vegetable orchard we highly recommend Babylonstoren.

Although the sale and distribution of alcohol is currently in a state of limbo industry competitions are still going ahead, and we’re so proud of the following producers who excelled at the recent National Wine Challenge / Top 100 SA Wine competition for 2020: La Couronne Wine Estate, Babylonstoren, Allée Bleue, Holden Manz, La Motte, Rickety Bridge and Akkerdal. La Couronne and Babylonstoren stood out as two of the major winners in the competition, which saw four of La Couronne’s wines listed on the prestigious Top 100 SA Wine list, and Babylonstoren’s securing three spots on the list. To view the full results read the article on this link, which was recently published on www.wine.co.za,

Not even COVID-19 could keep one of  our ( and South Africa’s) longest running festivals from taking place this year. Launched in 1994, the Franschhoek Bastille Festival takes place annually over the same weekend of the French Bastille festivities and sees thousands of festival goers fill the streets of Franschhoek to celebrate the valley’s French heritage. However, this year saw a different turn of events, and instead of cancelling we saw this an opportunity to take the festival to the people. A 10-day countdown, which commenced on 1 July, we took viewers through a virtual journey of the Franschhoek Valley as each day revealed a new experienced.

Linked to the daily reveals were unbelievable offers, affording the public to make use of unforgettable deals. Although only revealed on the day these offers are still available until the end of July. In case you haven’t seen any of these offers, best to check them out here before it’s too late: https://www.franschhoekbastille.co.za/bastille-voucher-deals. Please note that online wine sales are still permitted, and delivery of wines will take place as soon as the ban has been lifted. The virtual festival was a resounding success and taking into account that we had no blueprint to work off, we managed to reach just over 500 000 people in total via our relevant social media platform with this campaign. As one of the country’s leading winelands destinations this has certainly paved the way for future virtual festivals. Watch this space for more details on upcoming Franschhoek events.
