27 for Freedom Virtual Walk, Run or Cycle

2021 marks the 31st anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s historic release from Victor Verster Prison now called Drakenstein Correctional Facility, where his renowned Walk To Freedom after 27 years of incarceration took place.

In celebration of one of the most significant lives in all of history, all are invited to join us in solidarity, where you and your family, friends or company can participate in a virtual walk, run or cycle and in so doing, recreate the footsteps of the father of our nation, Tata Madiba. All local entrants will receive a gift pack of 3 items, i.e. an embroidered head visor, an event branded face mask and a bottle of RTD (ready to drink) Powerade. You can also purchase a special 31st commemorative t-shirt online. Collection of these items can be done on Friday, 26th March at one of the following four Sportsmans Warehouse Stores that you choose in the Cape Peninsula area namely, Somerset West, Tygervalley, Rondebosch and Sea Point.

As per most virtual races, participants will be allowed to walk, run, or cycle at any location (within the borders of South Africa and abroad), at their own pace, outside or on a treadmill, alone or with a group of friends as long as they do so safely and adhere to all relevant Covid-19 lockdown regulations.

To commemorate and reflect on the milestones and to best honour Madiba’s legacy, the 27 FOR FREEDOM VIRTUAL RACE takes place from 27 – 31 March 2021. Participants can walk, run or cycle for a good cause and choose any of the three official distances, namely 5km, 10km or 27km – again we ask all participants to do so safely with adherence to the relevant lockdown regulations.

In the true spirit of what Nelson Mandela stood for, we invite people from all walks of life, all races and all ages to pay tribute to our iconic leader by participating in the 27 For Freedom Virtual Race.

Please join us at the 27 FOR FREEDOM VIRTUAL RACE and help us to preserve, protect and build on the legacy of Tata Madiba. Enter via close on the 17th March 2021.
