Franschhoek Wine Valley

Discover the sweetness of prickly pears and figs Workshop at Babylonstoren

  • R700 p.p.
  • 24 February 2021, 10:00 – 15:00
  • Presented by Liesl van der Walt & Maranda Engelbrecht
  • Please meet us at the Farm Shop

Only 20 places available.

Our farm’s bountiful late-summer produce includes two Babylonstoren favourites: figs and prickly pears in all colours and varieties. The day starts with a stroll through the garden to pluck, taste and learn about the farm’s fig varieties (from Eva to Adam, Black Mission, Cape Black and more). Our garden team will also share tips on how to harvest the cheeky prickly pear with colours ranging from yellow and orange to red and pink. Next, our food scientist, Debora van der Merwe, will show you how these fruits are blended to create our cold-pressed juices and smoothies. The workshop continues with a cooking demonstration that shows the many uses of prickly pears and figs and how they add depth and flavour to a dish.

Lunch at the Bakery is included.
