La Ferme – An Inclusive & Sustainable Farm Stay in the Cape Winelands
La Ferme is more than a scenic retreat — it’s a quirky, nature‑first, eco‑minded, and inclusive farm experience just 10 minutes from Franschhoek’s main road and surrounded by world‑famous wine estates. Here, sustainable travel, accessibility, and unforgettable outdoor adventure come together, with the playful charm of a working farm.
Sustainability That Matters
At La Ferme we take sustainability seriously. Only around 3% of the farm is covered with structures, meaning over 97% remains open natural landscape for nature, wildlife, and you to enjoy. Our 100% solar‑powered system dramatically lowers our environmental impact, aligned with the Western Cape’s focus on responsible, low‑impact tourism that supports biodiversity, outdoor activity, and local economic benefit.
Inclusive Fishing & Outdoor Experiences
• Inclusive fishing: With four well‑stocked fishing dams included for guests (and day visitors), La Ferme is arguably the only farm in the Cape Winelands where fly fishing is easily accessible for guests in wheelchairs.
• Haweqwa Nature Reserve access: Direct access to scenic trails ideal for hiking and running.
• Peaceful river settings (Wemmershoek) and opportunities for picnics, cooling off in the river, sundowners, and wild‑nature moments.
Family-Friendly Fun & Rustic Charm
• Kids are welcome — from the jungle gym and pool to river play and spacious open areas.
• Four self‑catering cottages with private wood-fired hot tubs and comfortable interiors (including fast wifi and air conditioning).
• Quirky, rustic character: La Ferme is a farm, not dust-free — and that’s part of its charm.
• Farm life: Meet goats, chickens, and turkeys, adding fun and life to your stay and discover various fruit trees, from Almonds to Loquats.
• Surrounded by picturesque vineyards and nature, yet close enough to explore wine estates, eateries, and Franschhoek attractions.
Sustainability in Action
• Eco-conscious operations: Solar-powered infrastructure, minimal built footprint, and mindful land management.
• Local culture & creativity: Cottages feature artwork by local artists.
• Biodegradable products and responsible waste: Composting and recycling systems keep the farm tidy and green, the recycling supports a local company in Franschhoek (Green Spot).
• Local produce first:
- Home-baked breads
- Marmalade from our own trees
- Meats & cheeses from trusted local suppliers
By staying with us, you support a style of travel that protects the region’s natural heritage, empowers local creative and agricultural communities, and invites visitors of all ages and abilities to connect with nature in meaningful ways.
