Groot Drakenstein Games Club

Groot Drakenstein Games Club is a social club who’s primary focus is on cricket. The club provides family recreational and sporting facilities for sports-lovers from far and wide, as well as weekly friendly cricket fixtures during the season. The club boasts the country’s oldest turf wicket, a historic clubhouse and well-stocked bar.

Groot Drak is always looking for new members to help support the club and to grow the Groot Drak family. There is also a strong commitment to developing a sporting culture within the surrounding communities, where a very active youth programme has been running for many years. Dating back to 1895, the club is steeped in history and tradition. Often hosting more than 50 fixtures a year (including many international teams), there is always a buzz at the club during the cricket season. Locals are encouraged to enjoy a drink at the bar while watching some entertaining cricket, framed by one of South Africa’s most picturesque mountain landscapes.

If you are interested in joining the club, please get in touch, or visit our website ( for more information.
